The Opportunity
An established and rapidly expanding interior fit-out contractor is seeking an experienced Health & Safety Manager to take ownership of its health and safety function across multiple high-profile commercial projects in London.

With a turnover of approximately £50 million and ambitious plans to reach £80–100 million within the next 3–5 years, this business is entering an exciting growth phase. Reporting directly to the Board of Directors, you will play a pivotal role in shaping and delivering the company’s health and safety strategy as it scales.

The company currently engages external H&S consultancies to assist with accreditations, audits, and inspections. This position will provide internal leadership, oversight, and strategic direction, ensuring consistent compliance and continuous improvement across all operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage all health and safety activities across live fit-out projects in line with HSE and CDM Regulations.

  • Develop and implement company-wide H&S policies, procedures, and risk management strategies.

  • Conduct and oversee site inspections, audits, and risk assessments (including Design Risk Assessments), ensuring corrective actions are implemented.

  • Monitor and report on safety performance, leading investigations into incidents and near misses.

  • Deliver training and inductions for staff, subcontractors, and visitors where required.

  • Collaborate with designers, project managers, and contractors during pre-construction and fit-out phases to identify and mitigate risks.

  • Maintain CHAS, SafeContractor, and other H&S accreditations with support from external consultancies.

  • Support and enhance the company’s Health & Safety Reward Scheme.

  • Work closely with the Bid Management Team during tender submissions.

  • Liaise with HSE inspectors, external consultants, and other regulatory bodies as required.

  • Stay up to date with current legislation, best practice, and industry developments.

Requirements

  • 5+ years’ experience in a health and safety role within the construction or fit-out sector, ideally with exposure to live commercial sites.

  • Strong working knowledge of CDM 2015 Regulations and UK H&S law.

  • Proven ability to work independently across multiple projects.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with confidence engaging senior leadership.

  • Valid UK driving licence.

Qualifications

  • NEBOSH General Certificate – essential.

  • NEBOSH Fire Safety Certificate – desirable.

  • NEBOSH Construction Certificate – desirable.

  • IOSH membership – desirable.
